My topic of coursework
My topic is How to assess the impact of research.
Strongest/weakest pillars and an example of being information literate
Our team's weakest pillars are Indentify, Plan, Management and Present, our strongest pillars are Scope, Gather and Evaluate. The reasons are listed below.
Scope
Understand which information we need.
Familliar with the search engines.
Be able to use library resources deftly.
Gather
Effiently use search engines and databases and print resources in library.
Keep abreast of the ups and downs of new information through web browsing.
Share information with partners by face-to-face interaction, email, or chatting online.
Evaluate
Choose appropriate key words to search information online.
Chosse various indexs whith the help of technical tools, e.g. EXCEL, to assess the information resopuces as well as the data collected.
An example of being information literate
Once I was an employee working for customer service. I was responsible to collect the data of customers frequently asked questions. After collecting the data through searching the records in the database of our company and communicating with the agents, I gathered the questions and use Excle to analyze the data with several indexes working out some diagrames like pivot tables.
At last, I chose the most valuable quetions and come up with the solutions after assessment.

Legal and ethical use
There are some implications for our poster. Those 7 dwarves possess quite different characters. Their names are Doctor, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Happy, Dopey, and Grumpy. Though they are not relative with 7 pillars, we chose them because they are so lovely. Besides, the fairy tale 'Snow White and seven dwarves' left us a deep impression in our childhood.

My own IL need and plan of developing needs
I aim to prepare for my essays and find
reading resources.
①Searching for reading resources:
Books are not on loan and have no electronic
versions.
Books can only be borrowed for a quite
short time.
Developing needs:
Indentify the most essential contents in
books and photograph the relative pages.
Look for alternative resources by using
search engines like Google.
Search online for purchasing second-hand
books with appropriate price tags.
②New assessment rules:
Target
Structure
Developing
needs:
Understand how to think like a local people
according to the organization culture.
Find out example essays online, analyzing
their structures and how they provide evidence to support their arguments,
then, take notes.

information universe
When I was studying Computer Science in China, I had to look for a lot of information in order to learn about programming. All teacher taught us was mainly about C++, and we have to learn other programming language like VB, Java etc. by ourselves. Then I have to try my best to look for useful information I need. Before learning the language, I could use Google or Baidu to have a general concept in mind and then look for the online courses related. As long as I met with problems, I can search the problem that I met with and perhaps someone else had already answered similar similar questions before. As a result, I can make reference to them. In addition, if the answers were not satisfied, I can write them down and post them in Baidu Zhidao and someone may help you soon.

information universe
During my whole bachelor study, internet helped me a lot in many ways. Marketing was one of my subject, that means I had to write marketing plans frequently. One of the most important steps of market plan is collecting information. Most information, including news, data, references, I found them on internet. Google scholar is a very useful tool to find reliable and up-to-date information. Another helpful tool would be Wikipedia. Of course, people cannot use Wikipedia as references, becourse everyone can public their opinion on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not academic enough, but it is a good way to learn something quickly. And thourgh Wikipedia, people can link to other websites that connected to the specific topic. In brief, internet helps students a lot in many ways.

An experience with regard to information universe
I’d like to talk about my experience of
preparing for my graduate dissertation in my previous university.
I searched the library catalogue for the
books relative with my dissertation title. The books are textbooks in electronic
version.
My previous university provided us a VPN
account to have access to multiple databases which should be paid, and our
university has already paid for all of the listed databases on the library website
of my previous university. I scanned the articles in the databases including social
databases and the library resources databases of other universities like Peking
University and Tsinghua University. Most of the resources in those databases
were periodicals, scanned copies from magazines and other people’s papers and dissertations.
I also took advantage of search engines
such as Google and Baidu to look for appropriate information on the website.
I gained much help from those online
encyclopedias especially those in my study field.
information universe
when i came in England for the language classes, at the beginning, our tutor asked us students to write an essay. we need to find a company, and analysis its current situation to find ways to expand its market share from several angles.i decided to write sth about Apple inc. Google scholar and Google books really helped me a lot. they provided large quantities of resources and evidences with reference to support my ideas. besides, i found a book in IC related to Apple's histories and features. it is useful, too.

some views to 7 pillars
1, identify
as a international students, I may find if difficult to move beyond the wording need by a lecture to identify the gap between what we have known and what we need to know to combat a problem.
2, scope
once we have known the information gaps, we need to use proper search tools such as website to find useful information. The range of resources is wide: books, journals, people etc. In my view, we may behave better in this field than the former one.
3, plan
it's quiet difficult to identify the differences between the strengths and weaknesses of search tools. Besides, there is no one strategy that suits all types of information resources. it' s hard to identify controlled vocabularies and taxonomies in searching without any little misunderstanding.
4 gather
if we are not only aware of the relevant resources depending on the previous pillars, but also we know what information we need and what strategy is suitable, we will feel confident about accessing and using all the resources appropriate to my information need.
5, evaluate
information is not always right and suitable. Different kinds of resources, author and publish will provide different views. It's vital to gather and compare information critically. This process need a large collection of information with a long time.
6, manage
In this pillar, manager focus on the ability to organize, apply and communicate information in a appropriate way professionally and ethically. From my experience, we are aware of the application of information in different situations and applying them in a ethical way. However, there is a long way to go to use them professionally.
7, This part may be the most challenging one. This process consist of summarizing, synthesizing and creating personal profile to provide a new perspective.
